Camp Catapult A Hands-on Engineering and Robotics Educational Summer Camp
In Camp Catapult, students will be exposed to and develop the following knowledge and skill sets:
• the basic physical principles of a catapult or trebuchet
• the design and engineering process
• fabrication processes including hand and power tool use
Ages 10-18
Monday-Friday 9:30 to 12:30
U.K. College of Engineering Courtyard
Camp Description:
Mobile Engineering Center
Siege Alert! Look out, it’s time for flying tennis balls, eggs and bags of Jell-O as this camp offers participants the opportunity to design and build a table top size catapult or trebuchet. In this propelling activity, students learn basic design and engineering principles coupled with hand and power tool use to create a fully functioning device of their own design. Students start with a kit of wood, steel, aluminum and plastic parts and create their catapult using tools in the Mobile Engineering Center. Throughout the week, students are instructed on basic physics principles as well as simple engineering concepts and are introduced to hand and power tools in a closely supervised environment. When students finish their inventions, they field test them, and make changes and improvements based on performance. Students keep their projects after the camp ends.
Notes:
Safety glasses or goggles and gloves provided.
Loose clothing, jewelry, and open toed shoes should not be worn.
Long hair must be pulled back.
