Summer 2009 Newton's Attic Presents:

"Mech-Antics"

A week long, hands on engineering summer day camp for young

people 10 years and up

To participate, students pair up and form a team of two players.

At the beginning of the week, each team receives a kit of parts

from which they build a robotic gripper. Students work in the

Mobile Engineering Center, a rolling machine shop that has all the

tools students need to build their grippers.

Throughout the week, participants are taught the skills they need to

design and build their grippers. They are also taught how to operate

the Robotic Rovers, drivable, electric vehicles that have attached to

them the robotic arms to which the grippers mount.

At the end of the week, students participate in an outdoor activity

in which they attach their grippers to the arms on the robotic

rovers. They drive throughout an arena in search of prizes they

retrieve with their grippers. Anything they collect, they are allowed

to keep.
